Adoption is about PROFIT

The Florida Adoption Council has a lobbyist. What is the job of a lobbyist for a nonprofit organization? What does Jon E. Johnson do with his time? Who pays him? Where does money to pay him come from if adoption is nonprofit?

Lots of nonprofits employ lobbyists. Advocacy and public policy are big parts of nonprofit work.

Nonprofits also pay their employees. That's how you get educated, experienced, talented people to work for you. Even so, the best people could earn more elsewhere, so keeping good employees is always a struggle.

I can't imagine you'd be any happier with the adoption world if it were run by uneducated, inexperienced, incompetent volunteers.

Uhmmm its not the uneducated that we are worried about. Its the laws that these agencies pay lobbyists to get the legislators to vote for. As long as the adoption agencies get to cloak their activities in unethical practices, I as an adoptee are concerned about. A mother should be able to change their minds within 24 hours. A father should be able to raise their own child if he chooses to. An adoptee should be able to access their own records when they choose to as well. I am concerned that the laws in Florida do not make adoption as transparent as they should be. The Florida Adoption Council who consists of some very unethical attorneys pushes laws that further restrict that information to those living adoption. If you really cared about all of us living adoption, you would put your foot down as well.

Flora, the statement that only talented, educated, experienced people can be found with a paycheck is false. I have worked free of charge advocating for and writing/researching for several nonprofits. I assure you, I am highly educated, experienced, and exceedingly talented. I volunteer that time and energy.

Do you really think volunteers are all uneducated, inexperienced, and incompetent? Strange statement from someone who lists her profession as "nonprofit" and thus MUST work with volunteers. What would your volunteers think of your words?
